about

Sauniell Nicole is me, an inspiring fashion designer.*

Growing up I spent years watching my parents, an excellent seamstress/crafter and a trained artist, express their creative talents. It was a naturally creative environment. At age 8 I started filling sketchbooks with clothing ideas. At age 10 I started sewing and at age 11, I got my first sewing machine. From that point on being in fashion stayed in the forefront of my desires. I've designed everything from jeans and shirts, to coats, suits, party dresses, and evening gowns. I also know beading and hand-embroidery.

After a short detour down the straight and narrow path of software engineering (In Mom's words "Fashion is hard, you need a fall-back career.") I decided to refocus on my career in fashion design. In 2001 I became a self-study in hand-knits and after venturing into designing and publishing hand-knit patterns I decided to formalize my years of self-taught design skill by applying to the Fashion Design program at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I also did an internship at contemporary level designer in knitwear and have freelanced at various companies to improve my knowledge and skills.

After graduating in Spring 2009, I am focusing my career on the world of contemporary design in wovens and knitwear. I am also sharpening my skills as a technical designer to become a well-rounded fashion designer. It is my hope to work among the great designers and companies that inspire me and build a career based on integrity and skill.

my design style

My style is clean and classic with influences from art, architecture, shapes, and color. I believe that clothing is an investment and that good style is never out of style. More importantly I believe that a good fit is key to all fashion. If it doesn't fit you well than it might as well be a garbage bag. I strive to make high-quality fashion accessible to all body types. Women don't come in one size or shape and no woman should be deprived of good fashion because of genetics.

*Talking about myself in the 3rd person seems creepy.... I just couldn't do it
